Video Chicken Live: Product Updates & R&D, Plus More on Baby Chicks: 1.20.2023
Tuesday Jan 24, 2023
Tuesday Jan 24, 2023
Live from Creedmoor, NC, Video Chicken Live is a fun and informative show about all things chickens and coops. Matt, Kristen, and Ingrid answer your questions. We specialize in chickens and chicken coop construction.
We discuss the shortage on baby chicks (for those of us who are ordering now!) and how you can get around that. Checking out local resellers and local farms is one option.
Matt gets opinions on our popular rope wrapped roost bars. We started with manila rope which is more coarse, like a tree branch, and changed to jute rope when manila wasn't available. Jute is much softer, but now has availability issues.
Matt talks about new add-ons for the chicken coop winter storm shields, and replacing wooden dowels for the coop windows with stainless steel dowels.
We answer viewer questions, and feathers fly between Matt and Ingrid and the restrictions on hemp.

Monday Jan 16, 2023
Monday Jan 16, 2023
Live from Creedmoor, NC, Video Chicken Live is a fun and informative show about all things chickens and coops. Matt, Kristen, and Ingrid answer your questions. We specialize in chickens and chicken coop construction.
This first episode of Season 3 talks about the price of eggs and different factors that are affecting the high price of eggs. We then discuss ordering baby chicks online from some of our favorite hatcheries and go through the steps with you. BUT, we discover many hatcheries are already sold out on popular female chicken breeds. Partly due to the avian flu from last year and perhaps from the increased demand due to the rising egg prices.
Disappointed but undeterred, we will try to find out what's going on and where to get our baby chicks this year in time for chick season.
Plus we answer your questions on chicken keeping and coop building.

Matt shows a local news story about Carolina Coops, that unveiled a new product that will be going into production: a greenhouse.
We also ask the viewers if they think a manual door on the henhouse should be standard, (there was lots of debate within Carolina Coops about it), and we also asked about black and white or color coop manuals. (color won, hands down)
We answered viewer questions and had more conversations about all things chickens and coops.

Live from Creedmoor, NC, Video Chicken Live is a fun and informative show about all things chickens and coops. Matt, Kristen, and Ingrid answer your questions.
This week we talk about why your chickens aren't laying eggs. Shorter days, molting, will make egg production go down. We fill you in on the reasons for less eggs and what you can expect from your young hens, and older girls this winter.
Also Kenzie is in town and helps answer questions. We also break out eggs that have been egg glassed the last time Kenzie was here 5 months ago and fry them up and eat them. Find out how they tasted!
Plus an important note about Chickenguard automatic chicken doors purchased from us in June and July of 2022. Some of the doors may have a defect in the rails that will cause the door not to lock properly. Please watch the video and if you think your door isn't working or locking properly, please contact us to get replacement rails.

Video Chicken Live: It’s Molting Season-9.16.2022
Thursday Sep 22, 2022
Thursday Sep 22, 2022
Live from Creedmoor, NC, Video Chicken Live is a fun and informative show about all things chickens and coops. Matt, Kristen, and Ingrid answer your questions.
This episode deals with molting. It's during late summer into fall (and sometime even in winter) when your chickens may start to molt. Molting is a natural process where birds lose some to almost all of their feathers and replace them with new ones. Some chickens will have a heavy molt, while others will have a light one that you may not even notice.
During this time, it's advisable to give your flock access to extra protein to help regrow feathers. This can be black oil sunflower seeds, scrambled eggs, tuna, or extra mealworms.
Chickens that are molting don't want to be handled and their pin feathers (where new feathers grow out of) will actually make it uncomfortable for them. We tackle what to expect, how long it can take, and how you can help your birds during this time.
